This update starts on a Backyard
Safari theme......
June 2005 - for previous updates
see link 'previous pages'
The sparrowhawk
can strike fear into almost any small bird just by appearing. Unfortunetly
for this young Starling it didn't have time to react. It was the noise which
drew my attention and in fact this picture was taken through the glass in
the back door. On opening the door the sparrowhawk took flight complete with
it's catch- a very dramatic show. I never realised how vulenrable other birds
were to this efficient killing machine-once witnessed never forgotten !!
It was Simba the cat that drew my attention
to this British Slow Worm who was quite happily basking
in the midday sun in the Garden - the marking and colours were quite vivid.Quite
often mistaken for a Snake here in the UK but in fact harmless and quite
happy to go about it's buisiness without any human or feline intervention.
Still a favourite of mine the
Bluetit here against a colourful backdrop at the time of writing ( 21/06/05
) this pic is a couple of months old and frantic activity of nesting has taken
place with much 'to and fro' of food.
And
some other subjects since the last update...
The German Capital of Berlin is a great
place to wander steeped in history and grand architechture ...on this particular
day the heavens opened and I got caught in a rain shower - seems to know
whenever I take a camera out - I managed to find a funfair and took this
shot in the dull light of the day , nevertheless I got well soaked !

'Commonorange'
are an upandcoming Herefordshire band causing much interest on the local music
scene. This was one of the photos from a shoot for their first CD 'noize in
your head' - a great bunch of lads who are definitely going places on the
music scene- check out their website for Gig dates and music downloads

This Blackbird has been working
constantly over the past few weeks first building and now obviously some young
mouths to feed. Fortunately they seem ok with the distractions of general
gardenwork going on around them - and the odd occasional tripod to put them
centre stage !!
